Yeah, but you have to go to IRC and somehow prove you have a legit copy of the game before they'll send it to you, at least for the first month.

Since I have no intention of buying the game until I have the patch in my possession, I won't be picking it up until next month--unless someone has an alternate download location, of course.

    DVD patch
For the first month, the only way to obtain our patch is to join the IRC channel #nnl @ irc.zirc.org. Ask to take the supah hamonika test. If you agree to the terms of the test, one of the channel operators will ask you a question about your ownership of the game. Correctly answering this question will result in the channel operator immediately sending you the patch.

UPDATE: You may now provide photographic evidence of your ownership. However, be advised that our photographic requests are considerably more difficult to perform than answering the question.

    Well, it could be...

1)They're pathetic jerk offs that get off on making people jump through hoops.
2)It's a weak way of soothing their consciences about their illegal h4x by making you "support" the industry by buying the game.
    3) Both 1 and 2.

    >>646031
    >soothing their consciences about their illegal h4x

Illegal yes, though making an entire new audience for the game available hardly warrants "soothing their consciences".
    >> Anonymous 06/24/06(Sat)22:38 No.646055
    >>646036

What audience? The two people who have the actual game?
    >> Anonymous 06/24/06(Sat)22:39 No.646058
    >>646036
They'd have the exact same amount of audience whether they played this little wannabe quiz show or not. In fact, I'd go so far as to say they're discouraging people from buying the game by being jerks about this.

But I think the best part about this whole thing is that even if you were to buy it right now, considering how long it can take to ship a package from Japan, by the time the game arrived at you door there's a good chance the patch would have already been released to the public anyway. Remeber everyone, irony loves you.
    >> Anonymous 06/24/06(Sat)22:45 No.646069
    >>646058
I wasn't so much commenting on the group's shannangins, but rather just the statement from the comment I was referring to. The new audience is small, true, but what they've done is still a good thing, and they deserve gratitude for that much.

Unfortunately, they're being outright moronic about the legitimacy shit they're going on with. I'd agree that people are probably being driven off getting the game entirely because of it. I know I'd feel much better buying the game with a freely-available patch available (I actually do plan to get the game with my next paycheck, though with shipping the patch is, as you mentioned, probably going to be near full public release time anyway).

All this is causing is a whole lot of hissy fits on both sides, a lose-lose situation.

I also think its stupid for anyone to force people to buy anything its like telemarketing all over againg but feels like its forced down your throaght in a way.

Only thing I could sugest is this Whatch the anime and or play the english demo, if you like it enough then there's no harm in buying the game also. If not then there is always the wait for a month untill the patch is released to the public.
Anyway for most of us who have been waiting two and a half years for the patch whats an extra month going to to to us.

(B) You must rip the customer feedback card into four equivalent-sized pieces, place one piece on each of the three discs, place the final piece on top of the box, and take a picture of all that. (C) You must destroy the support disc, then place the remains label-side-up on top of the box. You do not need the support disc for our patch."

    LOL @ http://nnl1.com/wind/

THE PATCH WILL BE DISCONTINUED AS OF JULY 23rd, 2006 AT 23:00 EDT.

Due to the rampant amounts of piracy, the dismal supah hamonika test pass rate, and the inane declarations of people attempting to circumvent our distribution method using all means necessary, verification has been suspended until this date. On July 23rd, GipFace will enter #nnl @ irc.zirc.org one final time and administer any remaining requests. After this testing period, the patch will no longer be made available to the public.

[The test will be at least ten questions long, and will also involve THREE (3) pieces of photographic evidence. (A) You must provide a full-body picture of yourself holding the box in one hand and all three discs plus the manual in the other. (B) You must rip the customer feedback card into four equivalent-sized pieces, place one piece on each of the three discs, place the final piece on top of the box, and take a picture of all that. (C) You must destroy the support disc, then place the remains label-side-up on top of the box. You do not need the support disc for our patch.

If you do not have a digital camera, purchase a disposable camera, take the pictures now, develop them, and scan them at an internet cafe. Also, do keep the remains of the destroyed material. You will need them for the questions.]

    So.
    The translators are reading this.

    To the translation team,

I thank you for translating this game. Many, many hours have been put into this at no benefit to you. For this, I am extremely grateful.

Unfortunately, I have decided against ordering it. I was to order it at the beginning of July, yet I have no will to purchase a game that I may not be able to play for the following reasons:
    1) It may not arrive before your (arbitrary) date.
    2) I have little will to sit through an exam and give away a photo of me and destroy a piece of my property to meet your standards of proof.
    3) If I lose the patch (HDD failure, forgetting to backup, backups failing), when I'd be bereft of a translation. If it were freely available, this wouldn't be an issue.

I am sorry that you have felt it fit to take this route, as I am sure there are others like me who would've bought this game otherwise.

    Sincerely, Anonymous.

I hope the people translating Tsukihime don't pull this shit on us.

If anything the people translating Wind should see it as an oppritunity(sp?) to spread word about visual novel games to people.

Not to mention, if people are going to such lengths to get a translation. It must mean it's a pretty good game, or people wouldn't give a shit about Wind. Denining more chances to spread word about visual novels.

    Edited :

Due to our insanely stupid antics, and our irrationally "dictatorship" style tactics to this, and the fact that we have not really translated this game. We are hereby trying to save embarASSment to ourselves and our staff/tl teams by making it a: absolutely impossible for anyone to obtain this "patch", b: asking that you spend 70 dollars importing the game (not including EMS shipping to get it there in less than 2-3 weeks) and then IMMEDIATELY destroy anything unnecessary to using our "patch"...

I have to wonder how many zeroes of people will go take the plunge and order the game, and then break one of the data discs, severely lowering the resale value.

Non-Japanese interest in visual novels right now is so fledgling, I hope the translation team doesn't think that by releasing the patch for free they would end up 'hurting' the 'industry', rather than supporting it by generating non-Japanese interest. There _are_ legit localization efforts out there like Hirameki International, but they're still pretty damn small (they're touring various anime cons right now, or at least a month ago... go check out their panel if you get the chance)

yeah, cause the planetarian translation sure "generated interest". in piracy.

    > destroying a CD that is supposedly not needed is too much
correct. they are doing this for themselves, and not getting the patch LEAKED is more important to them than actually sending it to everyone who really does own the game. it's a sad decision but not an unethical one. this goes for the other two comments too.
    >> Anonymous 06/25/06(Sun)02:21 No.646628
I was actually planning on finding a cheap, incomplete copy from Yahoo Japan or Amazon Japan or whatever, but this has deterred me from getting the game at all.

I dunno about people here, but I buy and sell a majority of my games on eBay and other auction sites. I try to own legit copies while at the same time, save a buck or two. Of course, many of these games aren't guaranteed to be complete or to be in the same exact condition as from a normal retail store.

Having to buy the complete, overpriced version from places like Himeya only to pass that test is absolutely absurd. I appreciate the work the group did, but damn... their efforts aren't just alienating internet pirates.

With all due respect, the regular CD edition of planetarian is sitting at #5 on Himeyashop.com's list of best sellers. I am assuming that that does not include all of the limited edition CDs sold. Note that it is also the only visual novel on the list and beat *Advent Children* of all things...

'Cause the planetarian translation sure "generated interest". IN SALES.
    >> te2rx 06/25/06(Sun)02:31 No.646671
I dunno, you have to more or less expect some people to test their test. Nobody who has the actual game in their posession right now would have an interest in an Eng. patch.
